About me

Lucy ThompsonI am a chartered research psychologist and Certified ADHD Life Coach based in Scotland and working internationally. I am a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF) working towards the Associate Certified Coach (ACC) Credential.

I have worked in universities as an academic researcher for almost 30 years. For the past 18 years I have focused on projects that help us understand what neurodevelopmental problems look like in the very early years of life, and what we can better do to support individuals and families.  (See here for more information on that part of my world.)

ADHD experience

Lucy Thompson and her sonMy own son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 6 years old, and that process has allowed me and my family to see our own traits with a different perspective. It is an experience I know is increasingly common among parents, and can be a complete game-changer in self-understanding and acceptance.

Although my academic work is very rewarding, I have found the pace and results-driven environment does not always suit my own working style, especially since having a child when I was 40 and moving into mid-life. Overwhelm has been a big issue, and accepting that and reframing my view of myself as a professional person has been transformational.

ADHD coaching feels like coming home for me – acknowledging my own neurodivergence and partnering with incredible people to move them closer to their goals rarely feel like work! I am inspired by my clients in every session.

I am delighted to be able to celebrate diversity and support individuals to carve their life trajectory with transparency and authenticity.
